Founded in 1923, the American College of Radiology (ACR) represents more than 41,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists (https://www.acr.org/About-ACR).
The ACR creates and convenes communities of experts to serve as the voice of radiology, demonstrating value and setting standards to advance the field and practice. It promotes radiology as essential and central to excellent patient care.
The Appropriateness Criteria (AC) from American College of Radiology (ACR) are 223 documents grouped in 10 sections or organ-system that constitute “evidence-based guidelines to assist referring physicians and other providers in making the best decision about the most appropriate imaging techniques or treatment in a specific clinical setting”. These guidelines are developed and periodically reviewed by panels of experts in diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology, with the aim of improving the quality of care and contributing to the most effective use of radiology.
The objective of this Program of the Interamerican College of Radiology (CIR) of translation of the AC from ACR is to achieve the joint and simultaneous publication, in English and Spanish, of the new revisions that will be published after the start-up date of the project.
The aim is to contribute to facilitating the dissemination of these reference guides among all Spanish-speaking medical professionals, whether radiologists or not, in the conviction that greater knowledge of them is the first step towards increasing their use in the sphere of influence of the CIR, that can ultimately lead to improved quality of care and more efficient use of radiology, which are its raison of being.
