Vol.17 No.1, January 2020

NotiCIR January , 2020

2019 was a year filled with successful scientific activities, promoted by the CIR and its member countries, culminating in the RSNA Congress in December 2019, where we had the opportunity and honor to meet several of the world leaders in radiology. We held the CIR Assembly in Chicago with representatives from all affiliated countries. We discussed issues of interest to all, and, above all, planned our future actions together.

Among the events held in 2019, one fills us with joy and pride: the 4th CIR News Course, held in Cancun, Mexico, a challenge for this Board of Directors and our Inter-American College of Radiology. We knew that we should try to improve the model of the course by making it more appropriate to the needs of our region and that is what we did: a high-level scientific course, focused on the daily life of the radiologist. Four modules were organized: Musculoskeletal, Thorax, Abdomen and Breast. The last two were jointly organized with RSNA and the SBI (Society of Breast Imaging) to whom we thank for their great support. We also thank the CIR member societies, who designated and sent high-level professors to be part of the scientific program. We also thank the sponsors and all the CIR staff who made it possible to achieve great success in attendance, with some 300 radiologists from several countries.

The expansion of ELAR Sub-specialization Scholarships, was another important achievement of 2019, offering 3 months of internship in the best centers of excellence that are CIR collaborators in various countries. 10 scholarships were offered and the extension of the program was only possible thanks to the enormous effort of our College with the support of RSNA and Laboratorio Guerbet. We announce firsthand that we will do the same in 2020, offering a significant amount of scholarships, thanks to the continuity of this support. Other important activities developed in 2019 were the new editions of the Virtual Journal of Radiology and the availability of the 4th CIR News Course online.

On March 21, 2020, we will hold the 6th Edition of the DIAR - Examination for the Inter-American Diploma of Radiology online. Spread this big news! Be part of this! We will also have the CIR Congress, held jointly with FMRI, between October 7 and 10 in the city of Merida, Mexico. The scientific program is ready, it has been worked for months, by the scientific committees of both entities and we are sure that it will be a great event, with several modules and speakers of high international recognition. Book the date to attend!

Finally, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the CIR, we’d like to congratulate all our partners for the beginning of this new year. The relationships we have shared have always been processes of scientific learning and at the same time, of trust in mutual collaboration and camaraderie. We wish that for the coming year we have the joy of continuing to share dedication, scientific evolution, and to deploy technology talent!

We wish all our associates and friends a happy New Year, full of new challenges and accomplishments and that integration, motivation and friendship prevail!

Henrique Carrete Jr.
