The “ADVANCES” series grows.

A year ago, in September 2008, the first one of the books published by the CIR was released for sales. It was the beginning of an ambitious project that was to include two or more books a year. All of them would deal with monographic topics, reviewing the current state and the progresses in areas of the specialty, forming a collection which we have called “ADVANCES IN IMAGING DIAGNOSIS”. Its editorial direction is in charge of Miguel E. Stoopen and Ricardo García Mónaco. The whole collection is published by Journal Editions.

I was lucky enough as to edit personally the first volume, devoted to the LIVER. It was followed by a second book on THORAX in April 2009, Dr. José Luis Criales Cortés was invited to edit this volume. Both books have been very successful within the radiological community.

This month, a year after the first volume was published, we release the third book from our series. It is devoted to the SKELETAL MUSCLE system and our invited editors are the President of the CIR himself: Dr. Rodrigo Restrepo, together with one of our former Presidents, Dr. Carlos R. Giménez.

We are very pleased, first of all, to see that the series is now real. Secondly, to realize that our College is a rich institution, in which more and more people are participating each day and that has the ability to generate several mechanisms for continuous education. One of these is the publishing of texts for the benefit of our radiologists and patients everywhere.

The 3rd Virtual Congress of Radiology will take place in October 2009 in the Teaching Portal of the Electronic Education Department of the Interamerican College of Radiology, RadiologiaVirtual.org.

This third edition is a continuation of the ones that took place in 2005 and 2007. We hope to repeat and exceed in quantity and quality the excellent results obtained in those previous editions.

For this 3rd Virtual Congress, some organization and presentation changes will be applied. One of them is that every day a different country member of the CIR will present its material as well as professional and social information.

Each day a different country will present the following:

- 2 Multimedia Refresher Courses; 2 interactive Radiological Cases; Historical profile and general characteristics of the country; and 10-20 characteristic photographs of the country

The Interamerican College of Radiology (CIR) and the Spanish Ultrasound Society (SEUS) offer 2 scholarships for residents on Imaging Diagnostic from countries members of the CIR. These scholarships will enable them to participate in the IX Residents Course of the Spanish Ultrasound Society that will take place in Gijón between November 5th and 7th, 2009.

They will receive:

• Registration, accommodation, and meal plan for the duration of the course.
• The amount of USS 1,000 for mobility expenses.
• They will also be able to access a rotation in one of the centres selected for this purpose. This rotation will last a minimum of 15 days and a maximum of 30 days, during the months of November-December 2009.
• The options will include the Hospital Puerta de Hierro in Madrid, the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, the Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla in Santander, the Hospital Donostia in San Sebastián or the Hospital de Basurto in Bilbao.

Personal expenses during the rotation are not included.
