Chicago, an annual date for the CIR

Chicago has been for the CIR an emblematic city: in fact, it has a tight connection to its origins. It was there where in the twenties the first ideas that proposed bringing Latin American radiologists together aroused. These are the same Latin American radiologists that now attend enthusiastically to these meetings.

Although it is true that a large number of colleagues from spanish-speaking countries already attended this wonderful event from the international radiology community with academic, social and business purposes, it was only in the nineties with the reform of the CIR that this event became the venue of the General Assembly’s annual meeting.

Since then, every year the Counselors that represent the associated members meet with the Board of Directors, the comissions, the administration and different work groups to evaluate different topics. This meeting will take place this year once again.

Ricardo Garcia Monaco. Honorary Member Of the
French Society of Radiology (SFR)

Ricardo García Mónaco, CIR Former President was appointed Honorary Member Of the French Society of Radiology (SFR). Mention that was awarded to him during the recent SFR Meeting that took place in October in Paris. Through this mean we would like to extend to him our congratulations.

3rd Radiology Virtual Congress

In October 2009, the 3rd Radiology Virtual Congress was held in the Teaching Portal of the Electronic Education Department of the Inter American College of Radiology, RadiologiaVirtual.org

This third edition of the congress is a continuation of the successfull editions of 2005 and 2007. It has also beaten the mark of the excellent results obtained in these past editions.

The following 14 Ibero American countries participated in turns: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Spain, United States of America, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.

In this opportunity the organizers wanted to add, in addition to the traditional scientific contents presented by the specialists (audiovisual refresher courses and interactive clinical cases), historical, political, cultural and social references from each country. The goal is to get participants to know characteristic aspects of each place, to extend and strengthen regional bonds. The over 3,300 registered participants and the high level of participation that they have shown in the Forums and Evaluations from each course are proof of the success that we have obtained in this Virtual Congress.

We would like to congratulate the organization team and thank the participants that year after year join us in all of the CIR initiatives.

Our radiologists’ opinion

Skeletal muscle radiology represents a significant volume of general radiology practice. It has progressively increased its importance over time, due to the continuous development of imaging techniques applied to this area, and also to the increasing number of patients with pathologies in their locomotor system.

The Inter American College of Radiology (CIR) is delivering a new issue of their excellent books, dedicated in this occasion to skeletal muscle radiology. It is published in a very comfortable and practical edition, with excellent illustrations and renowned authors who wrote extremely interesting articles on a variety of different topics. The authors are international experts, who have careers as acknowledged professors due to their scientific contributions to  skeletal muscle radiology.

In the book’s first section there are chapters entirely dedicated to a specific joint (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, foot, spine) and its pathologies, evaluated with a multimodal focus. In the second section there are chapters entirely dedicated to specific pathologies (compressive neuropaties, sport injuries, bone tumors of soft areas), which are all very well illustrated. The final chapter shows a variety of procedures available to interventionist radiology for the skeletal muscle system. All the different chapters review, in a directed way, the most important advances in some areas, or else review the topics with more practical interest.

The book is directed, and will prove to be extremely useful, to general radiologists and also specialists in this area, as well as to residents, technologists and specialists in other areas of medicine who may be interested in the different topics covered. It will also come in extremely handy to our patients.
