The French-Latin American Meeting begins today during the JPR in São Paolo

As this month of may begins, a dream comes true thanks to the effort, hard work and dedication shown for more than five years by different directors of the Societé Française de Radiologie (SFR), the Sociedad Paulista de Radiología (SPR), the Colegio Brasileiro de Radiología (CBR) and the Colegio Interamericano de
Radiología (CIR).

In the magnificent context of the Jornada Paulista de Radiología, which is the most important scientific meeting in Latin America, the organizers have called a numerous group of distinguished professors specialists of France, Brazil and Latin America to develop a program of two days in which will have 8 subespecialidades simultaneous in which will carry out conferences. Each of them with conferences, round tables and discussion and diagnosis tables in three languages, with simultaneous translation for portuguese, french and spanish.

It represents, without a doubt, an example of how the cooperation between our societies can help achieve new forms of education and paths to ennoble friendship among radiologists.

¡Congratulations!

Letter from the President

Dr.Rodrigo RestrepoDear Colleagues from the College,

The “Meeting of Institutional Work- Reengineering” held in Medellín on March 19th to 23rd was a great exercise of participation, team work and an excellent forum to analyze the problematics of the different countries and suggest concrete solutions with a promising future for the CIR in mind.

I would like to highlight the most important aspects of this event:

  • The response to our call was excellent. All 22 countries that are members of the CIR attended with their representatives, a total of 40 participants.
  • The general respect for all opinions, the high level of all participations, the respect and acknowledgement for schedules and timetables, and the team work spirit resulted in the raising if the “CIR Spirit”, and the strengthening of the friendship and partnership bonds.
  • Within the Development Plan, important programs were defined and installed with the future of the CIR in mind:
  1. Establishment of the SIRCAI: Integrated Radiology System for the Iberoamerican Certification and Accreditation.
  2. Creation of the Counsil for Radiology sub specialities, integrating them to the CIR. Design of inclusion politics for other countries to integrate the CIR, including countries from the iberic peninsula and the english caribbean.
  3. The following programs become active: Radiology Magazines; Program for the study and integration of the radiology residencies; Program for the development and regulation of Teleradiology; Department of Epidemiology and Investigation; Program for the standarization of radiology academic events, congresses and seminars, establishing parameters and operative guidelines; Instalation of committees for the standarization of radiology procedures, nomenclatures, billing handbooks and fares; Strengthening of the Bio-ethic group.
  4. Information was gathered and the first stage of the Census Program started, which will serve as a logistic platform for the rest of the programs.
  5. The new corporative image of the CIR was presented, unifying cir-radiologia.org, Noti-Cir and Radiologiavirtual.org
  6. The “Sponsor” program was officially inaugurated with the financing of the Meeting. The sponsors that participated were Bayer-Schering-Pharma and Hologic.
  7. The actions related to education were ratified, with the courses and congresses from Radiologiavirtual.org, the French-Latinamerican Congress in Brazil at the end of the month, the Congress in Chille in 2010, in addition to the Visiting Professor Program
As you may well appreciate, the advances and new projects implemented, ratified or created are countless. This is why we can proudly announce that “The Meeting was completely successful”. I would specially like to thank the commitment and effort of everyone who made possible the Medellín meeting. I would like to encourage you to continue working together for the development of Radiology in our countries.

Rodrigo Restrepo

Our Residents comment

Comments of some of our assistants to the ECR in Viena, with scolarship granted by the CIR.

Dra. Mariana Kucharczyk My name is Mariana Kucharczyk, I was one of the lucky participants of the ECR 2009, through the “Invest in the youth” program. It was a very enrichening experience, during which I also had the opportunity to meet colleagues from other countries and seeing some others again. The conferences all had excellent level; I especially enjoyed UBO’s of the liver. Do not walk into the traps! Also Intervention and transplantation, two subjects that particularly interest me.

I thank the CIR for the unforgettable opportunity that we were provided with!

Kind Regards,

Dr. Mariana Kucharczyk

Dr. Lisandro PaganiniI would like to thank the CIR for the opportunity that they gave me to participate and access a scholarship from the “Invest in the youth” program, which allowed me to attend the ECR 2009. It was a very enrichening experience both from a professional and personal point of view, due to the exchange with colleagues from the rest of the world that it enabled. I found the possibility to participate in Workshops very interesting. I especially enjoyed the PET-TC workshop, since I am mostly dedicated to this area in my asistencial work. The congress definitely exceeded all my expectations.

I would like to congratulate the CIR for promoting this kind of chances for young professionals in South America.

Yours faithfully,

Dr.Lisandro Paganini
