Message from the President of the CBR.

Dear Colleagues,

Once again we are getting ready for the Brazilean Congress of Radiology. This time it will take place in Belo Horizonte, together with the Interamerican Congress of Radiology.

Our hope is that the success reached in the last editions will be achieved again in this one. Nothing is standing in the way of our aspirations: approximately 40 foreign professors have already confirmed their attendance, the classes timetable is already finished and it includes reciclying topics as well as updating in the most current subjects of our specialties.

We will have at least two classrooms that will provide a service of simultaneous translation to spanish, to make it easier for our colleagues from other American countries and from Spain to understand the lectures.

Our Congresses have been planned with excellent scientific contents in mind, as well as a social programme that prioritizes socializing amongst colleagues. This year we will be having the company of our colleagues from the Interamerican College of Radiology. This is why we are paying special attention to the preparation of the opening cocktail party and the closure party.

We are expecting the presence of members of the CIR and the CBR who will bring prestige to yet another great radiology event.

Fernando Alves Moreira
President from CBR

Promoting NOTiCIR in Argentina.

Dear NOTiCIR Editor,

As you well know and almost since its appearance, the NOTiCIR has had an important place in the Argentinian Radiology Society (SAR) Website.

As from the next number, following a suggestion from Dr. García Mónaco, we have decided to incluye this publication in our newsletter.

This Newsletter, which we call News Bulletin is sent weekly to all the SAR and many FAARDIT members. I wanted you, as the respectable editor of the publication that helps bring all the hispanic radiologists together, to learn directly from us about the reach that we are trying to give to it.

Best Regards and all the best!

CIR Visiting Professors

Progress in the Visiting Professors Programme (PPV)

For the year 2008, the General Assembly that took place in Chicago approved a 15.000 u.s. dollars item for the PPV, within the budget presented by the board of directors. 8 extra programmes have also been requested and approved completely.

The countries with assigned programmes for 2008 are Argentina, Honduras, Peru, Chile, Nicaragua, Colombia, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Currently 7 programmes, out of the total of 14 professors involved, are completely defined. There is still an event pending, for which we are working intensely.

We would like to stress the policy used for the selection of the professors for this programme. Ideally, those that have not participated the year before are prioritized. However, the availability of the professors and the criteria based on the special area of interest and subjects requested by the countries make it difficult to combine the programmes in the most adequate way.

The CIR would also like to emphasize the large amount of Professors participating this year in its activities. This is due to the Congress of Belo Horizonte, that will take place from October 9th to 11th, where we will be represented by 28 excellent radiologists from different countries that will represent us with great quality since they have plenty of skills and qualities to do so.

In sum, 44 Professors from different countries will be participating in the academic activities sponsored by the CIR. These activities that we share with you so that you may be well informed about our programmes.

We would like to invite you to the official websites of the CIR http://www.cir-radiologia.org/ and of the Interamerican Radiology Congress http://www.congressocbr.com.br/english/ where you will be able to access to all the information related to these Continuos Education activities.

From now and on thank you very much!!

Dear Editor:

I take this opportunity to greet you and to tell you that on March 8 of this year I traveled to the European Congress of Radiology in Viena (ECR 2008) as guest professor. I gave a 45-minute lecture entitled "Useful Signs in Genitourinary Imaging" within the framework of the interactive course “Useful Signs in Imaging.” I was also the moderator of the refresher course on pancreatitis.

Although we are more used to attending the RSNA events, I think there are many excellent CIR radiologists who could participate as speakers at this Congress, and therefore we should encourage our colleagues to send papers and posters, and to introduce themselves in the European scenario.

Yours sincerely,

Pablo Soffia Sánchez, M.D
