Last October 10th, 2008, in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, a new cycle in the history of our College has concluded. The presidency was passed from Dr.García Mónaco to Dr.Rodrigo Restrepo, who received a distintion and the ceremonial club from his predecessor. This way, he took on his new charge as the 20th President of the Interamerican College of Radiology.

Letter from the President of the CIR

Dear Friends from the Interamerican College of Radiology,

In my role as President of the College during the2008-2010 period, I would like to greet you and invite you to continue working together towards the development of Radiology in our countries.

In cooperation with the new secretary, Aldemir Soares and treasurer Migue Angel Pinochet, together with the new elected President Oswaldo Ramos and the former President, Ricardo García Mónaco, we wish to form an effective and coherent group that will work for unity and participation.

We have set ourselves an ambicious development plan, and we intend to make use of all our previous experience and our commitment to achieve its completion.

The fundamental aspects of it can be summarized in the following:

  • Ideological project and institutional reinforcement. Strengthening of the Organizational culture and values. Statutes. Vission and Mission.
  • Institutional Leaders School.
  • Good Government Code, correlated to the Bioethical committee
  • Membership “card” and institutional “image”
  • Institutional Work Meeting. Re-ingeneering. First Semester of 2009
  • “Intelligent Office” Programme. It includes all the operational actions, boosted and improved.
  • Institutional Archive – Data base. “2009 CIR Census Programme”
  • “Sponsor- CIR” Programme, with commercial houses and donations with other institutions and members of the College.
  • Communications and Publicity master plan. Cir-radiology.org and NOT i CIR
  • Institutional Programme for the development of societies and strategic aliances. “The CIR as an integrator for the different sub specialities” and others.
  • CIR Visiting Professor Programme
  • Interamerican Congress of Radiology
  • Certification and Accreditation Programme. Validation of degrees continentally.
  • Programme for the Standarization of Academical Programmes and Radiology residences.
  • “Quality standards” programme and Radio protection
  • Cir-Karpovas and education centers Programme. Grants programme and programme for investigation funds. (“Grant”)
  • Investigation Department and Clinical Epidemiology.
  • Department of Electronical Education (www.radiologíavirtual.org)
  • Publishing Programme
  • “Ecological Project”, Availability of technology and resources oriented to the protection of the environment.

All these goals and proposals need of your cooperation and participation to be achieved. This is why we are inviting you to continue supporting us in the quest for “Excellency”


CIR Golden Medals awarded in Belo Horizonte

The First Book of the CIR was handed to the Societies in Belo Horizonte.

During his final appearance as the President of the CIR 2006-2008, Dr. Ricardo García Mónaco handed out copies of the First Book of the series “Advances in Diagnostic Image” This first volume is dedicated to the Liver.

It has been produced under the scientific and editorial supervision of Dr.Miguel E.Stoopen from Mexico, and contributions from renowned professors from Chile, Colombia, Mexico, United States of America and Spàin.

Second Meeting of Teaching Services.

¡Everyone can participate!

For the second consecutive year, we will be holding throughout all november the Second Meeting of Teaching Services This special event, in which all the materials (conferences, clinical cases, images and discussions) have been prepared by residents and professors of 40 different centers where university residencies exist, is intented for THE WHOLE RADIOLOGICAL COMMUNITY.


  • Active participation of Residents, Studying Radiologists.
  • Exchange of knowledge and teaching experiences.
  • Bring together the latinamerican radiology community.
  • Discuss the problematic topics on the radiological formation.
  • Share protocols and teaching methodology
  • Boost the use of Information and Comunication Techonologies (ICTs) among radiologists, especially those still in formation.


  • More than 40 services in 12 different countries have registered for the Meeting.
  • Sending contents from each participating Service:

The great demand this course has arisen has determined that the CIR Department of Electronical Education maintains this breif yet substantial course going. Its importance lays in the fact that it provides useful information for the search of information.

CIR Visiting Professor Program

In the Past CIR Meeting in Bello Horizonte, Dr. Rodrigo Restrepo has announced that in October 2008 the year’s programme was succesfully completed. Professors have been sent to 8 different cities in the american continent.

This programme is certainly one of the most succesful amongst the ones that the CIR organizes every year, that is why it will be kept during 2009. According to the Statute, applications will be approved at the next Meeting.

Next CIR Meeting called for December in Chicago.

The next general ordinary meeting of the CIR has been called for Tuesday, December 2nd at McCormick Place in the city of Chicago.

The meeting brings together the Board of Directors with the Advisers from each country and the members of Commissions and Departments. Attendance is subject to invitation.
