Letter from the President
Dr. Ricardo García Mónaco

After the success of the First Virtual Congress on Radiology, held in June 2005, and the recent virtual meeting of residents with over 2,630 colleagues, we are pleased to invite all radiologists to participate in the Second Virtual Congress to be held from October 1 to October 31 this year.

Registration for the Virtual Congress is free. This year it includes multimedia refreshment courses, given by internationally renowned radiologists, radiological cases, electronic posters and a photography competition where the best photography on the daily events of an imaging diagnosis service will be awarded a prize.

We invite all the radiology community to participate actively at this Second Virtual Congress on Radiology, and to take advantage of this excellent chance to receive training and interact with colleagues from Ibero America.

I would also like to congratulate CIR’s Department of Electronic Education and, in particular, Dr. Beresñak and Dr. Rodríguez Recio, who have managed to implement this educational and teaching cyberspace successfully.

With the support and the participation of all CIR’s members, this Second Virtual Congress in November will surely be another success.

Dr. Ricardo García Mónaco
President

CIR’s II Virtual Congress Prepared Enthusiastically

October 1-31, 2007

In only 30 days, CIR’s Second International Virtual Congress will be in progress, and we are sure the achievements will be much higher than the already important ones accomplished in the previous Congress in 2005 with the participation of 1,800 colleagues from over 40 countries.

As in the previous Congress, the academic activities will be intense and offer ample opportunities to ask questions, to “chat” and, above all, to hold open communication channels which, as before, will help not only to acquire knowledge but also to make new friends and build relationships.

Registration is free

CIR’s Committees Profile

Bylaws and Regulations Committee

Originally called “Bylaws, Regulations and Ethics Committee”, it is nowadays called Bylaws and Regulations Committee upon the creation of an ad hoc Bioethics Committee in 2006 to which we will refer in our next issue of NOTiCIR.

In accordance with Section 27 of the Bylaws, it is intended to: watch for the compliance with its principles and the Regulations in force, and assess the possible amendments that represent some benefit to CIR. The Board of Directors may request its advice on legal matters. .

The original Bylaws, approved during the Second Inter-American Congress on Radiology in La Habana in 1946, was amended at the Assemblies called by Sidney de Souza Almeida in San Pablo in 1990, and in Río de Janeiro in 1992, and thus provided the College with its current structure as Federation of National Societies.

The Bylaws has later been subject to two revisions. One was called by Dr.Francisco Arredondo in 1998 in the city of Guatemala and was presided over by the coordinator Dr Francisco Esquivel, and the most recent one was called by Dr. Miguel E. Stoopen in the city of Zaragoza, Spain, in 2006, and was coordinated by Dr Sánchez Cortazar himself. At present, the colleagues listed below are the Committee’s members:

Coordinator:

  • Dr Julián Sánchez Cortazar  (MEX)

Members:

  • Dr. Francisco Arredondo   (GUA)
  • Dr. Carlos R Jiménez  (USA)
  • Dr. Miguel E. Stoopen  (MEX)
  • Dr. Carlos Tarzián   (ARG)
Honors to CIR’s Members

Honor Member of RSNA 2007

The members of the Inter-American College of Radiology have happily received the news that the Radiological Society of North América has honored our fellow colleague and former president of the CIR, Dr. Francisco Arredondo, by appointing him Honor Member, a distinction that will be given to him in the city of Chicago at a Solemn Session during the following RSNA 2007.

While joining the joy of our Ibero-American community, NOT i CIR politely invites all the members of our corporation to be present in Chicago in order to be with him at this emotional act (November 26th, 2007).
