Echoes of a great meeting

At the time this issue of NOT i CIR is being prepared, the first two weeks of the First International Meeting of Teaching-Residency Services in Radiology, planned and organized by CIR’s Department of Electronic Education, and held at, and financially supported by “CIR Education Fund-Karpovas-GE”, have elapsed.

Those who have followed this program have witnessed the enthusiasm it has generated through the exchange of notes and comments among participants. The curriculum prepared by 50 groups of residents and teachers is being followed and actively discussed by the radiology community.

Over 1,200 participants! from the most diverse countries -Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela- follow the program on a daily basis and participate with questions and comments.

It is also noteworthy to point out the technical accuracy and quality of those who have given the presentations, which allow specific access to Conferences, chats, clinical cases, etc.

However, beyond the huge benefits for education, this activity has opened the doors of communication and relationship among a great number of young Ibero- American radiologists, and this is priceless.

CIR Committees

The structure and operation of the Inter-American College of Radiology were drawn in the original bylaws approved in La Habana in 1946. While this document has been revised and updated in three occasions (in 1991, 1999 and 2006), the general structure has been preserved.

These bylaws set forth that the General Assembly of Advisors representing the countries associated is the highest authority of the College. Every two years, the assembly appoints a Board of Directors that is the executive body that proposes, organizes and executes the actions required.

In order to comply with this assignment, the Board of Directors relies on the cooperation of numerous colleagues grouped in the Committees and Departments listed below, whose purposes and composition are clearly defined in the bylaws:

In the following issues of NOT i CIR, we will explain how each working group operates and list the members currently involved in each group.

Lighting and other factors to take into consideration for the
ideal room to read digital images

Diagnostic digital images are more and more frequently read in dedicated monitors, whose characteristics impose new considerations to view images in excellent conditions.

Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to a series of elements in relation to the reading room environment, the temperature and, most importantly, the lighting and the furniture. These factors have been discussed in many articles in the literature, and the instructions and guidelines of international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Commission of European Communities (CEC). Therefore, radiologists must become familiarized with them in order to adapt their facilities progressively.

For more information, we recommend reading the following article: Digital Imaging Illuminates. Question of Ideal Room Lighting, by Patrick C.Brennan, Ph.D., published in RSNA’s May Newsletter
