Editorial: Invitation from the President

To all Radiologists and Residents in America and Spain

In my capacity as CIR’s President, I am pleased to invite the radiology community of our countries to register and participate in the electronic education program we have called: “First International Meeting of CIR Teaching Centers”

Enthusiastically organized by a generous group of colleagues of the College Education Department, and financially supported by “CIR Education Fund-Karpovas-GE ”, it is free for everyone registered.

Professors and residents from fifty teaching centers in America and Spain have contributed to this event by presenting conferences, clinical cases and various educational materials which, I am sure, will help to improve our knowledge and skills.

If you have not registered yet, do it now!

Ricardo García Mónaco

Congress in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina

The season of meetings with CIR Guest Professors will be opened with the IX International Congress of Imaging Diagnosis, organized by the Association of Imaging Radiology and Radiotherapy of Tucumán, chaired by Dr. Miguel Tortosa.

San Miguel de Tucumán, a city founded in 1565, is today a metropolis located in the north-eastern region of Argentina. This year, its active society celebrates its ninth International Congress with Guest Professors from CIR countries and Europe.

A meeting point, with a rich tourist offer for the visitor, San Miguel de Tucumán will receive CIR’s guests with open arms on April 27 and 30, 2007.

Congress in San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Central American Congress in Honduras

San Pedro Sula, an industrious city in Honduras, will host the next Central American Congress of Radiology, as reported by its President Norma Edinora Cherenfant

An attractive program in which CIR and RSNA Professor will alternate with radiologists from Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras is awaiting the attendees.

But not everything will be science in Honduras. Before or after the congress, attendees will be able to enjoy the ruins of the city of Copan, located only two hours away from San Pedro Sula, which, in the opinion of NOT i CIR’s editor, is on of the most beautiful cities of the Ancient Maya Empire..

And, for those who love the beach, submarine fishing or just the sun, the sea and the sand, a couple of days at the beautiful Honduran coast or on Reutan Island will be the best vacation.

The CIR yesterday and today

The CIR yesterday and today is the name of a conference that we, the members of CIR Board of Directors, have been giving since the year 2004 at each of the courses in which CIR participates together with Guest Professors.

The purpose is to give a brief outline of our corporation’s history, its development throughout its 64 years of existence, and the activities and services provided to about 55,000 radiologists of the 25 National Societies that make up our corporation.

The 30-minute conference is presented in a plenary session of the Course or Congress. It is usually given by the President, when he attends the meeting, by a Board member or by the member of a committee, and sometimes by a Professor commissioned to such end by CIR’s President.

The following speakers, among others, took part in the conference: Miguel E. Stoopen (MEXICO), Francisco Arredondo  (GUATEMALA), John Mackinnon (CHILE ), Garlos R. Jiménez  (USA), IlkA  Guerrero (PANAMA), Rodrigo Restrepo (COLOMBIA), Javier Casillas del Moral (USA) and José Luis Criales Cortés (MEXICO). The following conference will be given by our current President, Dr. Ricardo García Mónaco (ARGENTINA).

The speakers’ experience and the feedback of the directors of the National Societies at which it has been given have been highly positive and have helped to make CIR’s objectives and actions known to thousands of radiologists that have so far attended it.
